Born in Lyme. Married Abigail Olmsted in 1775 and lived the rest of his life in East Haddam. He was a member of the local Committee of Correspondence, elected June 30, 1774. In 1778 he solicited subscriptions in East Haddam for supplies for the Army to be lent to the U.S. upon Loan Office certificates, under the direction of the Continental Congress. In 1781 he was chairman of a committee to receive and put up the town's quota of pork, beef, and flour, etc. for the Army. He was also a member of the General Assembly.
